From the Artist:
I find each and every dog beautiful, and I know that everyone does not feel the same as I do.
This was never truer than last year when I started to photograph the latest round of dogs brought to my studio by my friends Ross and Melissa from Canine Commitment of New England (CCNE).
CCNE does a fantastic job of caring for these amazing dogs, as do their partner shelters down South and the dozens of wonderful associated volunteers. Many of the dogs coming to CCNE are neglected at best and abused at worst. Jewel is just one such dog.
Jewel is where this artistic project began for me; her story is the reason I decided to act. I decided to create art featuring these rescued dogs. I wanted to produce a gallery event where I could show people that despite their tortured beginnings, these dogs can and do blossom into individual works of beautiful art.
A friend described them as discarded beauty. This is true.
My goal is not to provoke sadness or anger but rather to show the beauty in every living thing. Beauty can be nourished, even from horrible beginnings. As for these pups, CCNE helped these pups meet their full potential – the amazing and loving dogs they are today.
